The plane was a gift brought back from Italy. The immediate sense it gives: hold me, wrap your hands around me, feel my weight. Even if you don’t care about planes or wood or tools, even if you don’t know what this thing does, this object asks to be touched; you will want to have it in your hands. It has years of use on it. The initials BRZ are burnt onto the wood. The old man selling the tool couldn’t tell my partner’s parents who BRZ was. They brought it back across the ocean. It’s a tool with a benevolent ghost. It is something meant for hands. I wish that you could hold it.
